R.I.P. The PRC©

by prcnetworks on January 5, 2008

So, I finally decided to pull the plug on The Pacific Roleplaying Community© after roughly six years. I’ll go into my reasons why later, but first I thought I’d chronicle something I was thinking about while out on my run. The PRC© has a user database of roughly 654 users as of today. I thought I’d go through each block of letter groups one by one in individual blog posts, covering who these people were and what I recall of them. I’ll start today with the letter A.

a Ranger: Y’know, I hate to start off like this but I can’t recall much about her. She was female, posted only a few times and honestly I never could figure out who she was. Seemed to be intelligent and composed well articulated posts. I wish more users were like her.

Abaddon: Young kid, I am sure. Only posted three times and each one contained some sort of over the top profanity. They never seem to last long here.

Abram Luxloft: A.K.A. Clerist Luxloft. Clerist is one of the few people I’ve known and played with/around since I was sixteen years old. Remembered most (by those who have known him all these years) for his mood swings and up/down patterns of behavior. Clerist can be a wonderful kid at times, other times though.. he is capable of things you would figure most people with any common sense would never consider doing. Last I heard he was on some kind of anti-depressant medication, but things in his life were looking up. I wish him the best. (GREAT Roleplayer, when he can separate real life from fantasy)

achilles: Young kid, very motivated to be active in the community. I recall him making some rather bold and cute attempts at creating his own story lines and making them visible to other people. Never afraid to ask a question and always polite. Spelling mistakes be damned, I liked him.

Adamantyr: I don’t think I ever told Adam how giddy it made me the day I realized someone I had looked up to in my teenage years was actually posting on my site and logging in regularly. Always there with positive contributions to the threads he joined in on, Adam was much like the older and wiser Master Sergeant who was always there to listen to me bitch and give me good solid advice. I treasure his friendship, and wish more people that played such an instrumental role in the early days of MMO Community design were as active and vocal as he is. (The man can code like nobodies business, too!)

Adonias: A.K.A. Maleus Vanguard (sp?) Adonias showed up in Skara Brae Pacific back in what I like to call Pacific’s “Golden Years”. The Seers were active, the player base was huge, and there was always something going on in Skara Brae. Almost immediately his character Maleus took a disliking to the character I played at the time, Sir William. I was never sure why, maybe I was doing something annoying back then? After all I was about seventeen, so anything is possible. All I know is, just about the entire community was my friend, but that Maleus guy.. *chuckles* Either way, his return to Pacific and his following “contributions” to the community followed the same pattern of behavior. Adonias was always snipping at me, the site, or the community. Frequently bitching about one thing or another, but never really attempting to contribute. (But God did he love to create dissension and lower general morale) I’m glad most users in the end saw through him to what he really is.

Adunia: I don’t really know anything about Adunia. She was one of Sable’s T.F members and always kept to herself. Well mannered, articulated, and intelligent. Why can’t they all be like that?

Aeon: Ahh Aeon, how I’ve missed you. Aeon was passionate, active, and motivated. He played his character wonderfully and was excited about the concept of the PRC from the get go. I can’t really remember why he left, but I always find myself thinking back to the days when he posted regularly. Aeon, wherever you are – Thank You.

Aexial_Derull: .. Reinhardt? I’m honestly not sure who this person is, and for the record I’m not poking around the database trying to make sure. I think it might be Reinhardt, but I’m not sure. Only a few posts, and most seem to deal with USO, so your guess is as good as mine.

Ailus: An EFS member and only posted twice. A disappointment to be sure, as the two posts he made were fun to read and just the right size. Wish he had been more active.

Airlik: Another USO member, again only two posts. Some people just don’t like forums.. :<

Aithne: Ahh Aithne, a member of Terreg Wis and someone I was convinced was one of Zed’s alts. Aithne was another one of my “dream users”. Her posts were always easy to read and relevant to community growth. Only twenty two posts though, I really wish she had been more active. Oh well. -_-

Ajisme: Ahh.. A PDM member. Only posted twice.. Maybe that’s some kind of magic number? Anyways, a disappointment to be sure. I really thought the whole PDM thing was a damn good idea!

Akel_Armen: Akel was a great, great member of the community. Outspoken, well liked, and very active. I have fond memories of ICQ chats with him about everything from Ultima Online to the latest movie that happened to be in theaters. Akel went on to enlist in the United States Army and I don’t think I’ve heard from him since. I’m sure he is out there somewhere kicking ass and taking names, even if he probably ended up with a commo job. Hooah buddy, wish you were still around.

Alalithra: Meh, she only posted five times, and I never spoke with her. I know she was a Syndicate Underground member though, and had something to do with Denvrai. I imagine I have alot of users like her in the database. =P

Aleena: I’ve known Aleena in one variation or another for years now. While we haven’t always got along, I can honestly say Aleena has always had the best interests of the community in mind. I’ve never known Aleena to say anything behind my back that he wouldn’t say to my face, and she has always looked at things with a fair mind. I unfairly lumped her together with Brador back in the day, and I can honestly say I’m sorry for that. I wish I had got to known her better back in the day, I’m sure we would’ve had a blast together.

ALEX VII: Seemed to be a little late to the game, but boy was he motivated. I give the kid props for how hard he fought to get his tavern off the ground, and I only wish he had been around earlier on. He would’ve done great things.

Alistor: The typical tragic PRC user story. Wonderful writer, great imagination, loves to roleplay….and only posts about twenty times. Such a waste, so much talent and so little drive. *sighs*

Allesandra: Don’t know much about her, only posted three times. I think she might have been USO? Not one hundred percent sure though.

Alluna_Callah: I never got to know her personally, and I kinda wish I had. She was always polite, and friendly. Loved to roleplay and as far as I know didn’t have an enemy in the world. I thought she had something to do with Ben Kahns, but maybe I’m just losing my mind. It was tragic when she was hacked, and I really hope she at least broke even from the donations.

Altara Damodred: A.K.A. Gwendlyn Firemane. Gwen has always managed to sit on a very dangerous fence. Being both my friend, and a leader in ElF. Its no secret that I’m commonly persona-non-grata with ElF, and being constantly put in the middle of that couldn’t have been easy. In my experience Gwen has always been a motivated and inspired individual, but unfortunately lets herself put way too much on her plate. Which usually ends with alot of things being neglected, and poor Gwen being dog-piled with stress. She has had a lot of ups and downs in her life, and I really hope things are settling down for her. God knows if anyone deserves a happy and stable life its Gwen.

Alyssa Donovan: Alyssa used to be one of the most active members of the early Pacific RP community, but unfortunately in the down time around the release of UO:R she found another home with the opposite side of the coin. Alyssa never really RP’d again and the few times she appeared at the PRC it was usually in defense of her new friends.

Anaiya: Just a wandering face, stopped by to check out Pacific in lieu of her home on Atlantic.

Ancient Lord Achiro: There was a time when I was less then my usual honorable self ^_^, Achiro is a good good friend from those days. Both capable of horrible acts of player versus player violence and well thought out roleplay. Achiro really should’ve been more of a fixture at the PRC©, he would have made an epic bad guy.

Andryss_OTW: A.K.A. Jennae Kynn. Boy oh boy.. Jennae. Jennae got in on the ground floor with the PRC© and was one of its strongest early supporters. Its funny that later on in her time with us she ended up being easily one of the most destructive forces the community has ever seen. I’m still not sure to this day what it was that set her off. One day she was a bright and cheerful guild leader, and the next.. well.. I think we all know. I hope things have settled down for Jennae, and she has found some happiness in her life. God knows the PRC© probably wouldn’t have ever achieved the success it did without her.

Angst: Angst was a wonderful contributor to the community, and was all the way up to the day I closed the doors. Being that he is still active I am honestly sorry he was affected by my decision to end the site. Active, vocal, and motivated are three words I’d use to describe his contributions to the PRC©, I wish more users were like him.

Annabella: She seemed to come out of nowhere, excited about being part of the community and eager to get her guild involved. Holding events and posting about her guild, The Sosarian Watchers’ Society. I really wish she had been around more, as I enjoyed reading her posts.

Anoron: Heh.. I warn you now that not all of my entries will be “kid safe”, this entry may be one of them. Anoron is what I like to call an e-whore, attention starved and has little time for anyone that doesnt drool over her “good looks”. As with most e-whores her contribution to the community was very limited, as they don’t tend to enjoy being anywhere near those that have little interest in following them around like a love sick puppy. We’ll touch more on the e-whore phenomenon later.

Archaaz: Percy Bandello! This kid was fired up when he first showed up, and I honestly don’t know what happened to him. He was friendly, and went out of his way to get to know me. I enjoyed reading his posts, and I really wish I had the opportunity to rp with him. People like him are the reason I created the PRC© in the first place.

Archie: Another fixture of the “Golden Days”, and one that had very little of a presence at the PRC©. I really wish it had been different, because Archie was a leader, and a motivated leader at that.

Arjuna_Hawkmoon: Ahh, an OTW member! Arjuna was one of many active and contributing wolves back in the PRC’s © own version of the “Golden Days” and unfortunately a casualty of Jennae’s downward spiral. Alot of wolves have gone the way of the dodo, and I for one am very sad to have seen them go.

Arren_Esthil: Arren at one time was a person I might’ve said the PRC© would have been better off without. However I would’ve been wrong, very wrong. Looking back now I can see that all those posts Arren made that irritated the shit out of me were actually a good thing. Even if I disagreed with Arren, he was always putting his opinion of what was best for the community out there. He never had the wrong intentions, and always listened to reason. I miss the guy.

Arren_UW: See: Arren Esthil.

Ashen Newt: Ashen got a bum wrap from many in the community, probably from his falling out with Jennae. (Who still held a good deal of influence in the community) Ashen was an active roleplayer, and an honest guy despite what some people may say. I have very fond memories of Ashen as my guild mate in the Warders of Skara Brae. I never did meet him in real life, and I really wish I had.

AsherQS: EDIT: So apparently I got Asher mixed up with Azurewraith. It was late.. what can I say? Asher seemed to follow suit right behind Brador. For as long as I can remember he was nothing but a headache, and did his best to be a thorn in my side. Abusive to anyone he didn’t like, and as I recall physically abusive to Nomlia. I was happy to see Asher disappear, and I hope to never see him again.

Asher Shobalar: See: AsherQS.

Assia Penryn: I told you we’d get back to the subject of e-whores. Assia is the Queen Bee of Pacific server e-whores. With her own crowd of groupies and playground over at Stratics, Assia was one of the most damaging individuals to the PRC© community. When Assia realized I wasen’t the type of indivudual she could manipulate with a giggle or a flutter of her e-whore eyes she quickly developed a distaste for me. Even going so far as to avoid any contact with me and go directly to Dan, attempting to manipulate PRC© policy through him. A hopeless effort at best, but it didn’t stop her. Assia’s list of offences and attacks on the integrity of the community run as long as my arm, from trying to redirect irc traffic away from the official PRC© irc room, trying to discourage people from visiting the PRC©, and the almost comical way in which she took advantage of any opportunity to slather my name in public and private. I have no time for people like her, and I for one am glad I never have to deal with her again. I haven’t met a person as full of as much shit as she is in my life.

auroris: See: Aleena.

Azerith: Honestly, I don’t know anything about him. I can only find three posts from the man and none of which hint at his experiences with the PRC©.

Azurewrath: So I managed to get Azure and Asher really, really mixed up. Azure and I have disagreed from time to time, but when you get right down to brass tax he is a good guy. It was Azure, not Asher that I’m now proud to call my friend.

A Shadow: Anon login for a USO member I believe. A throwback to when the PRC© used the cgi/perl based YaBB SP1 forum software.

And that wraps up the letter A! See you guys next time for the B section.

Older? OLDER?! 🙂

Sheesh, you make me sound like Optimus Prime. Hm, actually, I kinda like that.

I’m sad to see the PRC shut down, but your reasons and sentiments for doing so are your own. I hope you can find a new pursuit in your life that brings you more happiness and less stress.
